DNA testing makes it possible to establish with certainty whether there is match between biological evidence and a given individual. Forensic testing can be used in a variety of circumstances including the identification of criminals or victims of homicides, rapes and other crimes, legal disputes concerning professional liability, determining the authors of anonymous letters, etc.
Warnex offers the most advanced technology and the expertise of its team of specialists to provide you with quality results that will hold up in a court of law.
Accreditations
Warnex Medical Laboratories is accredited by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) for DNA analysis under the following programs: ISO 17025/CAN-P-4E "General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories" and CAN-P-1578 "Guidelines for the Accreditation of Forensic Testing Laboratories".
Our Technology
Warnex uses polymerase chain reaction (PCR) technology. This technology consists of taking a specific region of interest in the DNA and producing millions of copies of it. This technique is highly precise, fast, and requires only very small quantities of DNA. PCR technology provides clear answers, even if the only item available for analysis is a single hair or a cigarette butt.
Highly attentive to the accuracy of its methods, Warnex uses only internationally recognized and validated genetic markers, the same as those used by the FBI, the RCMP and the SQ for all their forensic testing. In addition, our strict chain of custody and our rigorous procedures ensure the reliability and accuracy of our DNA assessments.
Comparison of Biological Evidence
Warnex offers a comprehensive service, including first analyses and second opinions concerning evidence or DNA samples. Our laboratory can analyze various types of samples to determine whether there are any similarities between two or more samples, regardless of the type of evidence. When a strict chain of custody is necessary, Warnex takes the necessary steps to ensure the validity of this chain. Samples that can be analyzed include:
- Blood and blood smears
- Saliva
- Hair and whiskers
- Vaginal secretions/sperm
- Body tissues
- Bone and teeth
- Biopsy tissues
Consultation
Warnex offers forensic consultation services including:
- Assessment of a DNA report filed as evidence, with a supporting reference document that states observations and conclusions.
- Assessment of an entire DNA file in order to verify whether all those involved, in terms of collecting samples, preparing the DNA, the actual analysis and the interpretation of results, have respected the necessary preventive standards and followed rigorous protocols.
Expert Testimony
Our specialists are qualified to provide expert testimony in lawsuits or on the subject of evidence, and can serve as expert witnesses regarding the results of DNA tests, procedures and/or the chain of custody.
Results
The timeframe for delivering assessments varies, depending on the scope of the case and the customer's needs.
